Have you been planning a getaway weekend to the beach for months? Is the weekend finally drawing near? Are you worried and stressed about what to pack or how much to carry with you? Here are some practical suggestions to pack light and smart!
Packing Light and Smart
One of the easiest ways to pack light is to pack in a colour scheme. Pick two colours, for example, blue and white, and then pack all your clothes in that colour scheme. It’ll make mixing and matching easier and you will only need to pack two or three staple items, for instance, blue shorts and two white tops. Stick to cotton or linen fabrics. The beach can get hot and sunny and staying cool will be a high priority. Pack lightweight shoes, ideally stick to flip flops or open sandals. Sand gets everywhere and closed shoes at the beach will only be really hot uncomfortable.
Protect Your Self from the Sun
You may also want to look into sun protection clothing.
This doesn’t mean that you need to wear long sleeves to protect your skin from the sun, but that you can now buy lightweight sun protection shirts that protects you from the harsh rays of the sun. Clothing alone however, will not fully protect you so make sure you pack plenty of sunblock and take along your sunglasses and a large floppy hat! Consider taking a large beach blanket or towel to lay down on the hot sand and an umbrella to further protect you from the harsh sunlight. You will also want to make sure you stay hydrated, so make sure you take water or juice with you.
Plan for Activities
While most people are happy to lounge by a poolside of on the beach in the shade of an umbrella, some of us are more interested in all the activities you can engage in at the beach. Pack appropriate swimwear! If you plan on being very active, pack swimwear that will let you run and move about without slipping off or shifting around. If you plan on going surfing or playing beach volleyball, consider a rash guard or swim suit with longer sleeves that will protect you. You may also want to look into either hiring a surfboard or boogie board or purchasing your own if it’s a hobby you would like to pursue long term.
These suggestions will make packing easier, and may also prevent you from over packing or making sure you pack essential items like sunblock! Pack a board game, book or pack of cards too, for some chilled out downtime while you’re at the beach. Most importantly, relax and have fun!
